Michigan Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership (HOBY) Seminar 2011 registration is open and we hope you and your sophomores are gearing up for an exciting HOBY 2011 Seminar! If you haven't selected this year's sophomores yet, there is still time. If you're not yet convinced that you should register a student, please see our homepage to see how last year's students described HOBY.

We have a few updates that we want to share with you:

• First, Kelsy Bishop is our new Director of Student Recruitment and your new Michigan HOBY contact person. She will be able to help you with the registration process, from selecting students to completing the online registration process. You can find her contact information at the right. Learn more about Michigan HOBY using the links under For Schools at www.mihoby.org.

• Second, the 2011 Seminar will be held Friday morning to Sunday afternoon, May 20-22, 2011. The location should be finalized soon and an announcement will be made at that time. The Seminar has been scheduled in May in an effort to avoid final exams, graduations, and major sports competitions that have prevented students from attending in the past.

• Third, we're again allowing each school to send up to two students to HOBY. We've made your job easier by eliminating the difficult decision of which one of your top two students to send! (You might consider sending one male and one female.) When you register online, you may register one primary and one additional student, plus one alternate student.

• Fourth, for last year's service project we partnered with the Kids Against Hunger - Great Lakes Coalition to pack over 10,500 meals to help feed starving and malnourished children and their families. The meals were sent to mid-Michigan communities, Haiti earthquake relief efforts, and nations around the world. We plan to provide your students with an equally rewarding service project again this year.

Registration Details

A number of schools have already registered, but it's not too late for you to register your own sophomores to represent your school at this year's HOBY seminar. Use the links below to access materials containing guidance for selecting and registering for HOBY.

Online Registration

All registrations will be done online at www.hoby.org by clicking on the "Register Online" button near the middle of the page, or by using the Online Registration link above. I can provide you your School ID and Password if you do not have them.

Please take a moment with the student(s) you want to register to consult their calendars to avoid double-booking the HOBY weekend. We are excited for another great Seminar of supporting your students to defy his or her own personal boundaries and to develop new perspectives on familiar issues. If your students are looking to learn more about HOBY, direct them to our updated website: www.mihoby.org.

If you have questions about how to select or register a student or about the MI HOBY program, please contact Kelsy Bishop at kbishop@mihoby.org or 269-330-1567.
